June 8, 2010 – NY State Senate Passes Historic “Expanded Loft Law”

On June 8, 2010, the NY State Senate passed the “Expanded Loft Law”, bill S7178A. This has been 20 plus years in the making, and we cannot say with more enthusiasm, conviction, and sincerity:

“Thank you Senator Martin Malave Dilan, you have changed the landscape for artists in NYC.”

“Thank you Democratic Conference”, and

“Thank you Majority Counsel’s office.” And thank you to all that have helped to make it possible.

The Senate and Assembly will now forward A05667C/S7178A to the Governor for his signature.

A brief summary of the bill can be retrieved form the NY State Assembly’s website: Assembly Passes Legislation To Increase Protections For New York City Loft Tenants – [“Measures Would Help Safeguard Against Unfair Eviction Practices and Ensure Adequate Maintenance and Repairs in Non-Traditional Housing in New York City.”] — CAVEAT: This Press Release refers to an earlier version (A05667A) of the Assembly bill that was subsequently amended (A05667C).
